The law firm Tua Gratia was founded in 2007 by a group of Russian lawyers specializing in civil and corporate law, M&A, securities market, civil and arbitration proceedings.
The title of our company is translated from Latin as ‘to your benefit’ and dates back to the division of contracts of mandate (mandatum) in Roman law into three types: mea gratia («to my benefit» - a mandate serving the interest of the principal), aliena gratia («to the other person’s benefit» - a mandate assigned to the mandatary by the principle serving the interest of a third party) and, last, tua gratia («to your benefit» - a mandate serving exclusively the interest of the mandatary). Roman lawyers did not recognize mandatum tua gratia as having legal meaning of its own, but likened it to a simple legal counsel (consilium).
Thus, we believe that the words ‘tua gratia’ sum up the quintessence of legal consultant’s profession in the language called «ratio scripta». By electing these words for the title of our firm, we meant to pronounce our main principle to which we are going to adhere in our professional activities: attend to our client’s interests and approach their problems with as much attention, diligence and care as our own.
